BIG DRAW collages

Precedent: Chaimiduo Farm Restaurant and Bazaar/Campobaja/Bao Bao Restaurant

These collage shows a very busy bazaar space enclosed by restaurants. The "street" in my project could be widen out a bit to allow more activities to happen such as food bazaar.

Also, the outdoor seating space of the restaurant should be defined by some actual structures rather than just an empty space.

Form and Structure

Precedent: Chaimiduo Farm Restaurant and Bazaar/

The open air area in front of the family and children's center sink down a bit to better define the playing area for children and separate that from other public space, which ensures the safety condition for children.

Precedent Chaimiduo Farm Restaurant and Bazaar/:

Water side space on ground floor is preserved for car parking, but on the first floor the area is open up for the canal view.

Inspired by Bao Bao restaurant(the second collage), a series of simple structure can be a good choice for defining the outdoor seating space which a very unique space where indoor space and our door space overlap.

The entire structure should maintain its continuity and integrity, a way to achieve this goal is by using same architecture language both indoor and outdoor.

Apart from the idea of sunken green space, how the green space could be integrated into (or interact with) the family and children's center is another issue, because this area potentially belongs to the family and children's center.

Material consideration

toughened glass

Square steel (column)

Oak timber cladding

Precedent: MFO Park

From the BIG DRAW 2, I started to think about the continuity and intergrity of the building, steel structure will be used to connect indoor and outdoor space in order to achieve continuity.

Because the aim of this project is to enhance the quality of public space in stretford, and to activate the atmosphere of stretford, glass will be another main material of the building, in order to build transparency and openess.

Precedent: Haus Walde

The use of timber, is to balance the use of glass, which adds actual-virtual contrast to the project.

Steel structure could be really rigid, the indoor space, wraped with glass and timber, has a curvy plan, which adds softness and warmth to the project.

Precedent: House NA

If continuely using the steel frame in the children's park, rather than a regular alinement like the main body of the project, some more complex arrangement will be more interesting, which embodies the inspiring atmosphere of the environment specially designed for children.

Re-Planning

After introducing in the steel frame system, the original plan no longer works, so re-planning is necessary at this stage.

Taking all of the vision from BIG DRAW 2 into consideration,a general plan is generated: with a wider 'street', a series of structure for outdoor seating space, a sunken children's park, continuity and integrity, etc.

Further development to adapt to the site, and leave enough space for car parking.

Testing out the form of the building:

The way  the curvy "street" sits  might affect the area of indoor space and the potential circulation, by testing out different possibilities, I was able to find the best way to arrange the "street"
